100,000 Illegal Firms in Tehran

One the ways that the people of Iran have struggled to fight the theocrats in Iran, was to create companies and risk a lot of their capital, and of course their lives. But they had to. They had no choice. By hook or by crook they have been able to do deals with the outside world. Now we hear that the theocrats are getting annoyed, and want to clamp down. But can they, and will they? This article says it all

TEHRAN, April 17--Some 100,000 illegal medium- and large-sized companies are operating in Tehran, said the head of Tehran Guilds Affairs Association, stressing that the private sector is incapable of competing with quasi-state economic institutions.

Qassem Noudeh told ISNA that the activities of illegal companies are not under the supervision of any organization, whereas the companies registered officially operate under strict regulations.

“Any violation by a registered company would lead to its closure,“ he said, implying that there are thousands of illegal firms operating throughout the capital city without any such apprehensions.

He said the extensive state monopolies are involved in unfair competition with private companies as the state sector benefits from almost all financial and political means.

The official said the state-run economy is no longer in the best interest of the country. “I think the only solution to alleviating Iran’s economic ailments and poor social welfare is to empower private sector by driving state and quasi-state institutions out of executive economic activities,“ he said, adding that lie in other countries, the government has to take up supervisory role

Nice to meet you, and thanks for the greeting. I tend to view life as either 'fun' or 'funny', depending on the type of coincidences that are taking place. With Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds, you cannot go wrong. :D
