I couldn't agree with you more. It's rediculous. Ebadi turned out to be more of a Kaseef appologist then Khatami! She's is a disgrace and a fraud. If she gave a damn about the people of Iran she would stand up and tell everyone to reclaim their country. Instead, she comes out of her home every now and then and reads a prepared statement that has nothing to do with any of the struggles that Iranians are facing.

If she considers herself worthy of her golden-pat-on-the-back by the West, then she should publicly denounce the regime and tell people that they deserve better! We deserve a judiciary that is seperate from the executive and legislature. We deserve a legal system that puts women at a level equal to men. We deserve well trained judges who truly care about serving justice, not purging the country of dissident political thought.

HEY EBADI, YOU'RE A FREAKING LAWYER! Use those skills to educate the public on what the law should be and what the people must expect from the law.

It's a shame, but not a surprise.

Your cartoon says it all

It's amazing that the Kaseef-appologists always turn to the fact that "at least the Regime is partly democratic" - as if all the best that we should ever hope for in Iran is half a democracy. "At least" isn't good enough. A country is either democratic or it is not. There is no such thing as half-a-democracy. Either the government represents the will of the people or it seeks to impose its own will. In the case of Iran, the regime seeks to impose its own will. It tells the people what is good, right, and just rather than the people telling the regime.

Ebadi could have been a saviour for the Iranian people. She could have really been a voice for the opposition. Her supposed training in the Law would have enabled her to show the Iranian people why they deserve the basic principles that only true justice brings.

Instead we have a flawed judicial system whose basic principles are based on a bunch of bullshit that a Kaseef Susk-maar-khor Arab wrote. At the VERY LEAST she could have told the people that the judicial system under ISLAM can NOT be changed because the Qur'an explicitly states that women are 1/2 as worthy as men. Thus, under an Islamic judicial system the legal presumption is that women may not get a Talaq unless it is rebutted through contract or the will of the man. THIS IS THE LEAST SHE COULD HAVE DONE.

While I'm on the topic of Islamic law, what makes me even more angry is the facts that Islamic Law (which in my opinion is an oxymoron) is based on a language and culture that isn't even Iranian. Any Islamic scholar will tell you that if you truly want to understand the Qur'an and, therefore, what it dictates with repsect to the "law," you have to understand Arabic. You can't rely on interpretations of the Qur'an because the underlying meaning of the bullshit that is written in it changes from language to language. The vast majority of people in Iran don't know Arabic from their elbow. So the only way they can get an interpretation of it is from a Kaseef mullah who doesn't give a rats ass about justice anyways. So this has created a ruling elite that is "qualified" to interpret the Qur'an and 70 million other people who have to follow like sheep.

I get angry just thinking about it.

Iranian Law must be based on our culture and values, not on the values of a kaseef arab who butchered half of asia in order to spread his disease that is called "Islam."

Disgusting.
