Calm returns to Iranian Arab city after two days of violence

The fracas started on Friday after hundreds of Arab residents of Ahvaz, the capital of Khuzestan province, gathered to chant slogans against an alleged government plan to move more non-Arabs into the city.

One exile opposition group campaigning for the region's independence from non-Arab Iran, the London-based Ahvaz Arab People Democratic-Popular Front, said the violence was far worse than official accounts and put the death toll much higher.

Unrest continues in Oil rich Khoozestan province

Unrest is continuing in cities of the oil rich Khoozestan
province as sporadic clashes and acts of sabotage are
taking place despite the official claims of having pacified
the region.

Violence continued, today, by spreading to cities, such as,
Abadan and Khoramshahr where groups of demonstrators
shouted slogans against the Islamic regime and its
leadership.

Militiamen and regular security forces intervened in order
to smash the demonstrations.

Sporadic shootings were heard during day and night times in
both cities.

The City of Mahshar was also scene of violent clashes,
yesterday, resulting in at least 2 deaths and several
wounded among the demonstrators.

Several public buildings were also damaged in this city.

Acts of sabotage are taking place and a cargo train was
derailed, today, in the Ahwaz-Khoramshahr railroad.

The Oil facilities and pipelines have been placed under
heavy surveillance. Most accesses to Abadan's refinery are
controlled and an increase number of helico flights are
taking place.

Different reports are stating about 17 to 30 deaths and
dozens of injured in this regional unrest which has started
since end of last week in Ahwaz.

Hundreds of Ahwazi residents clashed, on Friday and
Saturday, with Islamic regime forces who used rubber
bullets, tear gas and clubs in order to avoid the spread of
riots generated in several areas of the city, such as,
Kian, Koot-Abdollah, Hamidieh and Khashayar districts.
Several banks and public buildings, such as, Law
Enforcement stations were heavily damaged by incendiary
devices.

The riots started following the rumor that the Islamic
regime is intending to diminish the social impact of
residents of Arab origin who are living in the area.
Sources are confirming that the rumor was spread by the
Islamic regime's intelligence in order to fuel racism and
to create a general situation making fear to Iranians on
possibility of a split of the country in case of the
overthrown of the Islamic State. The regime's leadership is
hoping to create a situation rallying Iranians behind the
candidacy of Hashemi Rafsanjani in the upcoming
Presidential elections.

Few separatists have tried to transform the rallies in
their favor but their calls were ignored by residents as
most Iranian Arabs believe strongly in the territorial
integrity of Iran.

Most of them fought Saddam forces and their local
mercenaries during the Iraqi invasion of 1980-82. They do
remember the separatists' dark and blooded records and the
so-called "Al-Ahwaz" group's activities during the
occupation of Khoozestan. Rapes and murders of hundreds of
young Iranian Arab females and the looting of the cities
were made by members of this group who helped Saddam's
forces.

The people of KHUZESTAN stand READY and UNITED to overthrow the filthy Islamic Regime. Talks of seperatist groups is insignificant and have been spread by the Islamic Republic. It is the people of KUZESTAN be they Persian-speaking or Arab-speaking who have risen up and taken to the streets. Well I did come the first time you all started it, but this time I came around, because I found that I could not get their site up, and thought that maybe there was a mention somewhere else about it. I came here, and found wow you people have put some really decent stuff here. I read some of the articles that you had all posted here, and I was well impressed.

It seems that a lot of us have found certain truths by ourselves, and we have things in common. That's weird. I have yet to find any Iranians that have said anything remotely similar to me, and you guys get closer than most. You lot believe in the Iranian Human Rights in the Spirit of we all call Zoroastrianism, which ironically is not an Iranian term. That is an interesting subject for all to chat about. You will not find any pre-Islamic Iranian text calling themselves Zoroastrians. The texts refer to our forefathers as followers of Mazdayasna philosophy.

To sum up it is nice not to hit a brick wall all the time . But being brought up from day one in a boarding school, and being told all that rubbish that you are told in GB schools, nothing effects me. So it is a bit weird being in good company.

US Urges Iran Restraint in Dealing with Violence in Province Bordering Iraq

The United States Tuesday called for restraint by Iranian authorities in dealing with unrest by minority Arabs in Iran's eastern Khuzistan province, bordering Iraq. At least five people have been reported killed in clashes there that began late last week.

There happens to be an astrological correlation to this:

The violence is erupting with the opposition of Moon to Uranus. And the US is getting involved quickly especially with Dr Rice in Moscow. Cool, it is all under control. I hope the big powers do not sqwabble over Iran, and let the Iranians sort out their problems themselves. The people of Iran are going to get their house in order soon. Iran oil city uprising leaves "hundreds" dead or wounded

The latest round of fighting took place on the sixth consecutive day despite the presence of various security forces, Revolutionary Guards, and officials of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS), who have been arresting anyone seeking to start a demonstration as part of their efforts to contain the already very tense atmosphere in the city.

Wave of violence spreads to other Khoozetan cities

Violent clashes continued, yesterday and this evening, in
several southern Iranian cities, such as, Ahwaz,
Khoramshahr, Mahshar. This wave of unprecedented unrest
which has started from Ahwaz, since last Friday, has spread
to other cities of the oil rich Khoozestan province, such
as, Dezful and Masjed Soleiman.

Sporadic demonstrations are still taking place despite the
heavy security presence and injunctions to end the riots.
Slogans against the Islamic regime and its leadership are
the main motto of these actions.

New reports are stating about the increase of number of
deaths among the demonstrators but also security forces.
Two militiamen were killed in an armed attack against a
security post yesterday evening in Ahwaz.

Houses of some of the regime officials or their relatives
have been set ablaze by some armed demonstrators resulting
in several deaths.

Acts of sabotage are increasing against Petroleum
industry's infrastructures, such as, pipe lines or symbols
of authority of the Islamic regime, such as, governmental
buildings, security posts and banks.
