Shahnameh: The Epic of the Persian Kings

Shahnameh is the essential Persian poetry book in any library. Ferdowsi in Persian poetry is similar to Shakespeare in English Literature. Shahnameh is epic fictional and somewhat metaphoric factual history of the early Persian Empire written in poetry. Shahnameh was written in pure Persian to revive the Persian language.

We Owe Existence of the Persian Language to 2 Persons

* Yaqub Leis Saffarid (840 - 879): Liberator of Iran and Reviver of the Persian Language and Culture
* Abolqasem Ferdowsi (940 - 1025): Reviver of the Persian Language

This is the best review ever written on this precious book which I cherish and read every once while. Lovely translation and marvelous art by Hamid Rahmanian. A must own book, a fancy coffee table collectors’ edition.

Atusa

Book is a detailed piece of art with luxury binding and quality thick and glossy pages. Book is loaded with modern classical Persian paintings, 500 pages of it! Rahmanian outdone himself! I got this book for my birthday from Ahreeman and it is one of my greatest valuable books in my library. I know you read and liked it because you were the one who told me about it first but Ahreeman turned me on to it by giving it to me as a present. Ahreeman bought a bunch of them and gave them as gifts on Nowruz Persian New Year to friends and family but mine was on my birthday. Book is awesome, even smells awesome! I’ll go over it again, tonight!

Cat:

The poetry was not only translated but adapted to English. Sadri done a great job. The illustrations are out of sight. So modern but at the same time classical Persian miniature style, digital to paper. Yes, I remember when I told you about it. I like the binding and casing too. I will start reading it again too. I start tonight. This book is worth reading and glancing at illustrations once every few months. What a precious collectible piece of art.

This Shahnameh is a historical treasure and a superb piece of art for poetry and art lovers. How can you love Persian poetry and Persian painting but not to own this book in your library? So well printed. It’s a true luxury, a piece of Persian history and art. Lovely book :thmbu:

Guys

:magnify: As a book worm, I approve this message because in my very short times of leisure when not working, I read worthy books such as this one. Rahmanian paintings are digital masterpieces. Ferdowsi would be very proud of this book. I love this book. Since Ahreeman put this book on the IPC Haft Sin for Nowruz, I started putting it on my Haft Sin Nowruz.

Check it out, the book is present in every IPC Haft Sin Table:

Something different, look closely:

Look at the mixture of shadow and colored graphic arts, a wonderful combination. It is a crossover of modern and classical Persian miniature painting, very special and very unique. Rahmanian is a great artist.

:thanks:
I get it. Pretty cool and in that tradition, I like the book cover art, same with shadows on the dark pattern but no colors, still pretty amazing and detailed, traditional Persian style with a pinch of modern contemporary digital design graphics. Very slick.
