“Death to the Dictator” chants at the funeral for Mahsa Amini who died after slipping into a coma in custody of Iran’s morality police can be heard in Saqqez, Sanandaj, Tehran and all over Iran. Her death has led to anger and renewed criticism of the Moral Police that harasses women who challenge the Hijab rule. Many Iranian women are sharing videos of cutting their hairs, burning their hejab and removing their hijab publicly in the streets in reaction to the death of Mahsa Amini in the Islamic Republic’s “Morality Police” custody.
Sunday protest rally of Iranian students at University of Tehran in which they chant the Persian version of a Kurdish slogan: “Woman, Life, Freedom” was notable. Iranian security forces are directly shoot at the protesters in the city of Saqqez following the burial of Mahsa Amini. Fights broke out during the funeral. Women took hejabs off and police started shooting at the people.

Protests broke out in western Iran on Saturday at the funeral of a young woman who died after being detained by morality police enforcing strict hijab rules, as security forces used tear gas to disperse demonstrators.
Videos posted on social media showed protesters shouting anti-government slogans after gathering in Saqqez, hometown of Mahsa Amini, from nearby cities in Iran's Kurdistan province as they mourned the 22-year-old who died in a hospital in the capital Tehran on Friday.
"Death to the dictator" – a reference to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, chanted the crowd, while some women took off their headscarves. Police were seen firing tear gas and one man was shown on a video with an injury to the head that someone could be heard saying was caused by birdshot. Reuters could not authenticate the videos.
In the past few months, rights activists have urged women to publicly remove their veils, a gesture that would risk their arrest for defying the Islamic dress code as the country's hardline rulers crack down on "immoral behavior."
Videos posted on social media have shown cases of what appeared to be heavy-handed action by morality police units against women who had removed their hijab.
Protests spread later on Saturday to the provincial capital, Sanandaj, with social media videos showing crowds chanting "Saqqez is not alone, it's supported by Sanandaj." Marchers were seen confronting riot police amid the sound of sporadic gunfire.
Investigation in to Death
Authorities have launched probes into the death of Amini, but a medical examiner said on Saturday results of forensic tests may take three weeks. Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli told state TV there was no report she was beaten.
Police said Amini was taken ill as she waited together with other detained women at a morality police station, rejecting allegations on social media that she was likely beaten. Police released closed-circuit television footage apparently supporting their version of events. Reuters could not authenticate the video, which appeared to have been edited.
Police earlier said Amini had suffered a heart attack after being taken to the station to be "educated." Her relatives have denied she suffered any heart condition.
Prominent sports and arts figures posted critical social media comments about Amini's death and protests were held in a Tehran on Friday amid a heavy presence of riot police.
As during past protests, authorities appeared to have restricted mobile internet access in Saqqez and nearby areas, social media posts said.
Internet blockage observatory NetBlocks reported "a significant internet outage" in Tehran on Friday, linking it to the protests.
Under Iran's sharia, or Islamic law, imposed after the 1979 revolution, women are obliged to cover their hair and wear long, loose-fitting clothes to disguise their figures. Violators face public rebuke, fines or arrest.
Decades after the revolution, clerical rulers still struggle to enforce the law, with many women of all ages and backgrounds wearing tight-fitting, thigh-length coats, and brightly colored scarves pushed back to expose plenty of hair.

DUBAI (Reuters) - Protests persisted on Sunday and #MahsaAmini became one of the top hashtags ever on Persian-language Twitter as Iranians fumed over the death of a young woman in the custody of morality police enforcing strict hijab rules.
Amini, 22, died on Friday after falling into a coma following her arrest in Tehran earlier in the week, putting a spotlight on women's rights in Iran.
Police rejected social media suspicions that she was beaten, saying she fell ill as she waited with other detained women.
Hundreds of protesters gathered on Sunday around the University of Tehran on Sunday, shouting "Woman, Life, Freedom", according to online videos.
Reuters could not verify the footage.
Under Iran's sharia, or Islamic law, women are obliged to cover their hair and wear long, loose-fitting clothes. Offenders face public rebuke, fines or arrest. But in recent months activists have urged women to remove veils despite the hardline rulers' crackdown on "immoral behaviour".
SURGING HASHTAG
The Persian hashtag #MahsaAmini has now reached 1.63 million mentions on Twitter.
Amini was from Kurdistan, where there were also protests on Saturday, including at the funeral in her hometown Saqqez. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have long put down unrest among the minority Kurds.
Police repressed the Saqqez demonstrations, with videos posted online showing at least one man with a head injury. Reuters could not authenticate the videos.
Behzad Rahimi, a member of parliament for Saqqez, told the semi-official ILNA news agency that a few people were wounded at the funeral. "One of them was hospitalized in the Saqqez Hospital after being hit in the intestines by ballbearings," he said.
Kurdish rights group Hengaw said, however, that 33 people were injured in Saqqez. Reuters could not independently confirm the number.

A 22-year-old Iranian woman has died days after being arrested by morality police for allegedly not complying with strict rules on head coverings.
Eyewitnesses said Mahsa Amini was beaten while inside a police van when she was picked up in Tehran on Tuesday.
Police have denied the allegations, saying Ms Amini had "suddenly suffered a heart problem".
It is the latest in a series of reports of brutality against women by authorities in Iran in recent weeks.
Ms Amini's family say that she was a healthy young woman with no medical conditions that would explain a sudden heart problem.
However, they were informed she had been taken to hospital a few hours after her arrest and the family said she had been in a coma before she died on Friday.
Tehran police said Ms Amini had been arrested for "justification and education" about the hijab, the headscarf which is mandatory for all women to wear.
Her death comes in the wake of growing reports of repressive acts against women, including those judged not to be complying with Islamic dress code being barred from entering government offices and banks.
Many Iranians, including pro-government individuals, are expressing their outrage on social media platforms regarding the very existence of the morality police, also known as Guidance Patrols, and are using hashtags that translate as Murder Patrols.
Videos have emerged on social media appearing to show officers detaining women, dragging them on the ground, and forcefully whisking them away.
Many Iranians blame the Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, directly. An old speech of his is being reshared on social media in which he justifies the role of the morality police and insists that under Islamic rule, women must be forced to observe the Islamic dress code.
The latest episode will only deepen the divide between a large part of Iran's young and vibrant society and its radical rulers, a rift that seems ever harder to mend.
