Biography
We welcome
Sohrab Sepehri in IPC Hall of Poetic Fame. Sohrab Sepehri, the valuable
Iranian poet, painter and artist have been granted an honorary IPC
Author position. We recognize him as a progressive artist and worthy
enough to officially become an IPC Author. Sohrab Sepehri is now
officially in IPC Hall of Poetic Fame. He was born in 1928 in city
of Kashan. Sohrab Sepehri is one of the pioneers of the Modern Persian
Poetry. Modern Persian Poetry unlike the Classical Persian Poetry
has no Rhymes, Rules and Meter.
Sohrab Sepehri
is a graduate of Fine Arts University of Tehran. He studied, taught
and researched painting and art throughout his life. Until 1964
he was working for government and practicing his art, yet after
this year, he focussed all his time on poetry and painting. Sohrab
moved overseas and lived in America and Paris, France. Sohrab was
familiar with a number of different languages and He traveled and
lived in various countries in Europe, America and Africa. After
he diagnosed with Leukemia, he moved to United Kingdom for treatment
(1979). Sohrab had left us and departed this world in Tehran (1980).
His tomb is in Kashan his birthplace.
Sohrab was a
free spirited humanist, naturalist and a progressive artist. Sohrab's
poetry is full of social criticism but in hiding, full of politics
but incognito, full of analysis but in a nutshell! Sohrab discusses
the social issues most delicately and poetically in between words.
His poems have been translated in various languages such as English,
Spanish, Italian, Russian and French.

1928 - Sohrab Sepehri was Born in Kashan, Iran
1944 - Painting exhibition in Tehran
1951 - Published his first poetry book which followed by
a few other books in the same year
1953 - Graduated from the Fine Arts University of Tehran
with BA in Painting
1955 - Translated a number of Japanese poetry into Persian
and published them in Sokhan, the art and literature magazine.
1957 - Traveled to Paris and attended the Paris Fine Arts
Institute in lithography
1960 - Traveled to Tokyo, Japan and continued his studies
in lithography and woodcarving. He also published three poetry books.
1961 - Traveled to India and studied the Buddhism Philosophy.
1964 - Traveled to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
1966 - Traveled to Europe and attended various art exhibitions
in United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. He also published
a number of lengthy poems in Tehran, Iran.
1967 - Hosted a fine painting exhibition in Tehran and published
a new poetry book.
1974 - Traveled to Greece and Egypt.
1976 - Published "Hasht Ketab" (The Eight Books),
a collection of all of his published poems in one volume.
1979 - Diagnosed with Leukemia (Cancer of Blood), he moved
to United Kingdom for treatment.
1980 - Sohrab left us and departed this world in Pars Hospital
of Tehran. He was buried in Kashan, his birthplace.
